Does anyone take any steps to minimize pixel problems incurred during air travel?

I don't think about it much, but an engineer at Abel in LA got me thinking about it. Since the radiation levels are greater, higher up in the atmosphere, camera CCD's are susceptible to pixel loss when flying. Is there anything you can do, short of not flying gear, that will protect the camera?

I was thinking along the lines of a cover or something with lead lining. Similar to what you protect film with. Does anything exist like that?... and, no, I am not going to steal the lead blanket from my dentists' x-ray room.

Not much you can do thats practical. If its just a few long flights I wouldn't worry. If your traveling all the time then its just part of the job. I used to do tons of travel and it wasn't until after about 3-4 years of this that I noticed my first dead pixel.

Results may vary.

I'm actually in Dubai airport right now using the WiFi......

I fly all the time - more than 100 flights last year (yep - Heathrow is my 2nd home) many of them 8+ hour flights.

I have an SX from 2000 - no dead pixels yet.

Never even heard of this before - never thought of this before.

Is this a known thing - dead pixels from flying?

If I was flying THAT much,I think I'd worry more about what the radiation was doing to ME.You can repair pixels.

Radiation is fine ....

Try Pakistan International's Airline food .... 8 times last year ....
