For those of you who knew him:

Jim Foley past away on Thursday. I was lucky enough to have worked with him at the Tampa NBC affiliate, (WFLA), back in the early 80’s. He moved to Boston and started freelancing and then returned to Florida where he was quite successful in the Orlando area with the NBA, Disney and others as regular clients. He was a great shooter and loved to laugh. I worked many jobs side by side with him from Shuttle launches to celebrity events, he always had a positive attitude. Jim was a friend to all. He will be missed.

This a sad news, Jim was instrumental in getting my business off the ground when I first moved to Florida 10 years ago and the weird thing is that last night we were talking about him. One of the first jobs that I did with Jim was a shoot on the Disney Magic cruise ship for a test cruise, because Disney needed kids Jim and his wife arranged for all the crews to bring their families for free, we all had fabulous time together. Today my daughter is going on a cruise and last night my wife and daughter asked me about him.
Last time I saw Jim was probably 4 years ago at an Orlando Magic’s game and I knew that he was planning to get out of the business. He was one of the great in this business both as a photographer and as a person.

The strange thing is, I knew Jim Foley, too. I remember when he was moving down to Orlando and I couldn't help but wonder why he was leaving. I've wondered what became of him in the intervening years. He was a very very nice person. I'm saddened to hear that he has died.

If anyone knows how Jim died and you wouldn't mind emailing me, I'd like to know.

What a blow.

I went to Jr. High school with him (and Les Rose) in Indiatlantic and later we all worked at WFLA together.

Even years later when our paths would cross, it was the same old Jim, working hard and having fun.

He will be missed.

Wow, that sux. I knew Jim as a fellow photog back when I was in Florida, he was a great guy. Mortality is always shocking especially from someone who lived life and deserved to live it to its fullest, sadly he was cut very short by something. Condolences to his family.
