What's the standard rate for a missed meal these days? it's been a while since I had to charge for a missed meal.

I usually just get really pissy during the shoot. Producers soon realize why.

I generally tack it onto the end of the day as an hour of OT. Makes sense to me since we would have finished the shoot that much later had we taken a break for a meal.

Time and a half for every hour that goes beyond a lunch break. After the lunch break, back to regular time.

The car won't go far without gas or oil.

Man, I like this idea.

Generally a meal penalty is 1.5 times a normal hour.

Most places, if you are given food (acceptable food of course) a half hour is acceptable. Otherwise a one hour break is the norm.
A few places I work at, if no meal break at all there is an additional penalty (called a missed meal on top of a meal penalty) is added at a lesser rate (equivalent to half an hour of regualr time).

Altho even in these cases I almost always have time to get food or there is food nearby that is free.

As a sidenote I recently (in one week from one place) had crabcakes, shrimp, and lobster pasta...I am sure I'll never see this again.

Usually its the ole chickenfish...

Oh and further...generally you have to be fed once during an 8 or 10 hour day. The meal MUST occur betwen the 3rd or 5th hour. If it occurs before or after these parameters the meal penalty is active, regardless of wheter they feed you earlier or later. This may sound petty to some people, but trust me it keeps everyone functioning much happier and more able to focus on the work instead of their hunger pains.

In the IATSE contract, as an example...
When on a 10 hour guarantee, the meal break comes within 6 hours of the start time. If it's missed, time & 1/2 until the break.
