I was watching a travel ch show over the weekend and all the highlights were washed out. I figured it was poor shooting with a handicam. But then commercials came on and they were washed out too. I watched on and off for a few hours and everything is that way.
Is it just my cable operator (comcast) or is there something wrong with TC's signal?

From time to time I notice something similar on Discovery HD, of course the main programming is usually gorgeous, but then some of the commercials(not big name co's) are washed out, and I have DirecTV.

Easy with the poor shooting comments... I did work for them last year!

It's probably a problem with the feed or the cable TV provider. Some times some stations are louder than others on our system which is also anoying.

Call the cable company and inform them of the problem. They'll sick an enigneer on it - who will probably tell them that the problems is on the other end (which reminds me of my favorite engineer joke...).

Ive noticed something similar recently on the food network. The barefoot contessa show used to look really nice. It's your typical soft lit kitchen show, very Martha Stewart looking. Every time I catch it now it looks really blown out and over-exposed. Weird because every other show on the channel looks fine.

This is all day, every program & every commercial only on Travel. I'll have to call the cable guy.
Stoney...not everything is poorly shot on Travel but they do seem to have a larger percentage of 'home movie' type shows. I've shot for them too.

Travel Channel is uplinked from Atlanta at Crawford Communications http://www.crawford.com/old/ click on networks and origination. They may have an issue that you should make them aware of. Of course it is probably the cable companies c-band dish that is all wacked out. That's what is nice about digital satellite, they have better engineers and equipment than small cable companies though you do have the added compression. Though now most cable companies are making one head end for multiple towns and linking them together with fiber.
