Since I've never owned anything but Betacams, I don't know what the going rate to bill clients for DVCPRO tape stock is(large 126min., yellow lid). I currently mark Betacam SP 30's up to $20 each, with a discount for whole boxes (10) or more used on the same shoot ($18 each). That's a nice little profit of roughly $10 to $12 each. Are you guys marking up in the $10 to $15 range, or more? I figure that puts a single tape in the $35 to $40 range, and although it will be HD, much more than that will probably be pushing it.

I charge $35/tape.

Speaking of tape, anyone know of a good, online business that sells tape at a discount?

Thanks guys. Yeah, DCVPRO tapes aren't cheap. I've gotten spoiled with Betas being less than $9 each forever. Ed, normally I would recomend Tape Resources in a second (and still do, if you're buying Beta), but their prices on DVCPRO are high and they will not match other dealers prices, I just asked about 10 minutes ago. ;) Depending on whether it's Panasonic or Fuji they are $2(p) to $9(f) more for the same tape than at least two or three other dealers that I looked at.

Try www.tapeonline.com or www.bluemediasupply.com

I bill between $35 and $40, depending on the client. So far no one's balked at $40...yet.Since I rent the Varicam,I do not do replacement.Either they bring it or buy it from me.

Also take a look at http://www.tapestockonline.com - just as an example their Fuji DP121-126L DVCPRO Tapes are $21.98 and the Panasonic AJ-P126L DVCPRO are $23.73 each. They also have quantity discounts.

I ended up ordering a box of Fuji's(126 min.) from B&H for $21.99 each. Tapestockonline was one of the others that I looked at, too, I think they got down about another 50 cents each, if you bought 50 or more. I love dealing with Tape Resources, they are always friendly and quick(where I live I get tapes the next day if I make their cutoff time) and shipping is free for orders over $250, but $2 to $9 more per tape adds up quickly when you're talking about multiples of 10 to 50, or more.
