Hey Everyone... my morning producer has collected a bunch of Beta SP tapes over the last several months... from satellite interview tours, etc. We've probably got a 100 of them. I just wanted to see if anyone knew it'd be worth trying to sell them on E-bay or somewhere else... or... should we just toss them.

maybe donate them to a public-access facility that uses beta sp? you could get a write-off that way.

We send stuff out on BetaSP and don't get them returned. We're a government access channel. I take it you don't shoot on SP...

My old place had a huge field that we could play beta tape baseball on. A baseball bat, about a hundred tapes, and a few minutes of cleanup kicks a$$. It rules to see a tape and about 50 feet of spool fly through the air a couple hundred feet on the REALLY good hits. Smalls fly better than bigs, because bigs tend to split in the middle...but you do get to hit them twice sometimes. Smalls tend to make better connection with the bat due to their size. Try it. You will love it.

if you want to dump some beta sp tapes our way we have several cameras at the communications museum that have old beta sp backs on them... (still need to find a play back deck)

We also need some of the small 3/4 inch ones too that fit the portable deck.

Other tape needs are also 1" for our portable Sony 1" BVH-500A machine (Yea its... porrtTTTTTAAABLLEE! <it has a handle on it and runs on 12 volts!> we got recently it... anyone have a color adapter for one of these??

Hell, I always need Beta SP tapes. PM me and we'll talk...I could use 'em at work big time.

If you're now shooting on BetaSX, keep them! They work in the SX decks and you get twice the time the tape was supposed to hold.

If not, give them to someone who could use them and shoot a self-serving pkg on how your station cares about the community.

Over the years, I've dontated boxes of used tape to Carpel Video. They recycle them - the best environmental solution. http://www.carpelvideo.com/
