I discovered some unused Beta SP stock that I have had for a while now.

How old is too old to trust? I usually just buy what I need, but I have found some stock that I didn't know I had. I'm worried about dropouts. I always try to use fresh tape.

Thanks.

"New" tape, stored in a cool, dry place? Should still be good. Try one and see....

I hope it's not BASF. That stuff is crap.

I had to do a re-shoot, in part due to BASF tape stock...

No, I have Sony, Fuji and Maxell. They are about 6-12 months old.
You are right about BASF!

6-12 months, I wouldn't even worry about that... I think most people out there use Sony and Fuji, too(I do:D ). I haven't seen many people using Maxell in a while, though, but I don't ever remember many complaints, either.

Be glad none are those old Ampex tapes. I could maybe get 3 passes out of one of those POS's.
