...still using Digital S (D9)? Just curious.

I shot on Digital S when I was in Sherman/Denison, 2002-03. JVC DY-90 cameras. The camera was not bad, made a decent picture, but the bloody thing was so sensitive, that any little flaw in the tape would cause digital break-up and make editing all but impossible. I think it's probably a better production format than news. In production, cameras and editors get babied more, with a lot less in hard use.

KXII switched to XD Cam and went full NLE last year. I just hope when they got new cameras they did not keep the crappy J-13 lenses with no extenders, and popped for new glass.

FNC uses that as their main in-house format- don;t know if they shoot with it or not (I'd guess not).
I hate that tape, I hate those decks. Glorified VHS.

WOW... the last time I used Digital-S was in college. They had just converted 3 of their S cameras to Digital-S. I've never been fond of the format, due to the fact that the tapes are so damn big that you have no where to put your extra's when your not close to your car. I think besides WVUT, which was my college PBS station at Vincennes U., the only other station in Indiana that uses Digital-S is WTHI, the CBS in Terre Haute. I'd have to agree with texshooter, the digital fallout on those tapes were silly.

I always thought FNC played to air from a Profile or some other server system...heh :confused:

Nope- good ole digital S- they must have gotten a deal by buying so many units of a non-mover...either way I'd never seen it before and needless to say I am very unimpressed

CNN uses server playout- bet their TD's are thrilled.
MSNBC uses BVW-75's for clips/VO's/Sots and GVG Profiles for animation and background loops.
