Larry G. (NBC Washington) and Rachael Manning (Human Resources NBC Washington) informed Alan Harvey (NABET Assistant to the President) the following:

“We meet with Rodney Batten and he suggested a one-man band on the North Lawn of the White House and one less sound person on presidential trips.”

Note:

Rodney Batten is a NABTE photographer. Rodney’s has been overhear telling other crews “I deserve to be in charge at the White House” “I am the only one who deserves to be on every trip.”

I have heard his decisions over the past month are:

Eliminated 50% of the soundmen traveling or covering the president of the United States. Now NBC relies on the White House to fully provide Presidential Audio.

It should be noted that when CNN tried this several months ago it failed. CNN Management saw the flaw within 24 hours after one near miss and returned the position to a 2-man crew. ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox even CSPAN use full crews on the north lawn.

It should be noted that Rodney is enjoying wearing his Republican Suite and tie in the Air-conditioned briefing room with a partner. While he makes decisions for those left out in the elements.

Rodney is remembered for coming to work in the trunk of a car during the NABET strike and is still referred to as a SCAB by fellow employees and the other networks.

I thought my shop was a mess. It is people like Rodney who make me feel good about not applying to work for NBC when I was told about the job opening in April.

What a damn douche. Does this mean that Gil is out of a job (the "Freelance" position?)

Larry G. used to work for NBC Newschannel, which is all one-man-band here in DC. The White House should not be equated with doing an occasional live shot from the Cannon Terrace or Russel Park.

Disclaimer: I work our position on the North Lawn as a one man band, and our spot is right next to NBC's. If anyone messes with Leroy, Gil, or the audio guys I'm gonna start swinging, since those guys have saved my butt more often than I remember.

I don't get it. Why wouldn't he want the help? What's in it for him?

NBC the new "STATE RUN TV"

No sound guys on the lawn yesterday or today!

NBC stands for Nothing But Communists TV!
It must only be news when Press Sec. Snow Tells NBC it is news!

Sept. 13 update
Has anyone else noticed how Rodney hovers around the north lawn since this was originally posted?

I watched him the past few days and noticed he hovers around the lawn pretending to help. But he refuses to do audio and during a live shot he stand with his HAND on his head while looking at the ground. If someone shows up and puts a headset on to do audio. Rodney becomes upset and starts pacing with his hand again over his eyes.

It appears that what he is really doing is making sure no one helps Leroy.

I also noticed that around 5:00pm a sound person sometimes shows up for the nightly show. I wonder if this is because they can see and hear how bad the show sounds when they use a one-man band. As they say “Jack of all Trades, Master of none.”

Sometimes you just have to let 'em fail. The first time they don't have audio on something they want (and it *will* be soon after implementing that policy) the stunt - like so many of its predecessors - will be history.

You gotta be kidding me. Carmine is gone? Is he fired, or just "reassigned" elsewhere?

Quick question: Who holds the boom mike in the Oval Office when the President makes remarks during a Photo Op? Condi? Dick?
