Has anyone who has converted to P2 had any problems, from either editing, playback or archiving? My station is looking into converting and want to know what we could be getting ourselves into.

We shoot with them and I couldn't be happier. Archiving is tricky...you just have to decide what you want to do. We edit on Grassvalley and again couldn't be happier with it. If you want to message me offline I will give more details.

One Network over here has had their P2 cameras sitting in engineering since last November. They want to use the existing Sennheiser drop in radio mics but the first three cameras they fired up with them in shorted out the cameras. Also they are having problems with Avid and the storage system they bought. Until that is sorted they won’t introduce them to daily news.
Because the cards are so expensive they plan to shoot in DVCPro 25 a big quality hit from the SX cameras they are currently using.
The one P2 they are using has needed the flip out LCD monitor replaced 3 times. Apparently a design fault with the exposed wires rubbing were it attaches to the camera removing the insulation causing the monitor to short out. They have to replace the whole monitor.
Last I heard there was talk of returning the P2’s to Panasonic and keeping SX for a bit longer.

We're in the middle of that conversion now. We've been shooting on P2 about 3 weeks...love it. The colors are beautiful, and the 700's handle low light like you wouldn't believe. We're editing on Edius...most user friendly thing I've ever used. And airing off of a Precis server.
So far, we've been editing and dumping to tape. We are slated to roll off of Precis tomorrow. If anyone in the Baton Rouge area wants a good laugh, tune in tomorrow. It'll either be a rousing success or a cluster.
Check out my review of the gear on my blog:

I'll be doing more once we get a few newscasts with Precis under our belts, so check back.

The only problem that i had with P2 cards is the shooting time was too short maybe i had them formatted wrong but we were running 10 min a card and i got 2 cards for an hour!

I'm no expert yet, but check the video format you're shooting. We're using 8G cards. They'll hold 33 mins of DV25, and only about 15 mins of DV50.
