(LOS ANGELES, July 18, 2006) Endemol USA, the producer of hit reality TV shows like “Deal or No Deal,” “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” “Big Brother” and “Fear Factor,” has selected Sony’s new XDCAM™ HD Professional Disc™ system as the originating format for “The One: Making a Music Star,” a 10-week summer series that will be broadcast on ABC beginning July18.

What??? Not mini dv??? Anyone knows a 9 yr old w/ a $200 mini dv camera from Best Buy is just as good as a professional w/ a broadcast camera.

What a bunch of losers... :p

Endemol will probally rent the units, not hire individual crews with them.

Yeah they rent, and keep the same crew through the season. I was on site for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I was drooling watching those XDCAMs work.

My understanding (limited), it is all real time, they have a couple Avid systems on site, they make their first cuts with the MPEG-4 proxy, and just put the blu-ray disc in the safe.

Anyone know the range?

I was interviewing with someone today (to work with their XD-HD) and in talking about formats he said ABC had bought 1100 units (!!).

Has else anyone else heard this?
