Does anyone charge extra to shot on holidays…? And if so is it double, half, other?

I am asking because part of my freelancing is with some of the local stations and I was thinking of charging holiday pay for July 3rd and 4th.

I just don’t know what to charge if anything at all, I do know the staffers get double time on the 3rd and 4th.

Advice please.

From my location - no holiday pay by US networks in Europe.

So, if you can get away charging it, go for it !!!

Nothing extra here. Missed Easter this year.

I never charge for it (goes with the territory and freedom of being freelance does have it's downside including missed anniversaries etc...) but I have been offered it a couple of times which I think is REAL classy. Producers, take note!

thats one of THE reasons that people hire freelancers - its cheaper since the company doesn't have to pay certain benefits - like extra pay on holidays. as a freelancer, you have the option of saying 'no' to work on holidays (or any day for that matter) - which is a benefit that staffers don't have!

Thanks for the advice - I will not be charging for working on the 3rd. I would be nice but Flaca nailed it on the head - I didn't have to work on the 3rd if I didn't want to.

I know a company in the DC area that charges 50% more for shoots on weekends and 100% more on holidays.

I would charge for holiday pay(double time) on major holidays.

Would anyone really expect you to work for straight time on Christmas, or Easter, or the Jewish Holidays (if you're jewish).

Of course it would have to be agreed to before you worked it.

What about July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, etc.?

Seems like about 50/50 among my clients on the subject. Sot he ones that do I consider working for...the ones that don't I turn down.
