I just purchased an arrisun 5 HMI, however it doesn't come in a case. I work in local news by the beach so I'm thinking a pelican case may be the way to go. I'm not too up to speed on the sizes of them and would need one to hold the head, ballast, and the filters would be great as well. Any input would be appreciated.

Check out there website. You should be able to find all of the interior and exterior dimensions there.

I found on B&H's web page that they suggest a pelican 1620 for this, now my question is about the pick and pluck foam. Is this a bad idea for having the the ballast and lamp head in? And does anyone have some tips about setting up the case and foam to accomadate everything properly.

If it fits a 1620, go that route because the larger 1650 is an absolute beast to lug around. Also, there is the gigantic 1660 (?) and I would not go that route either. But, ultimately, you need to put it in whatever it will fit into.

if you go with a pelican, i'd try to avoid the pick/pluck stuff. i hate it - it just ends up falling apart. go with their padded dividers and then you can still customize the inside, but without the pick/pluck mess. if you do it right, it'll be more than enough protection.

I have several Pelican 1624 cases for my 800watt Bron/Kobold HMIs, but I am currently switching to Storm Cases. The Pelican 1624 is equivalent to the Storm Case IM2750-00002. I'm switching because I am having trouble with the Pelican cases poping open in flight during my air travels. The Storm Cases seem to have better latches.
Good luck!
