The Thing on The Sticks

I will try to keep this quick as I know this has been covered before in some form or another. But my question varies a bit so I thought I would ask just to see if the answer is different as I am just starting my career as a freelancer. I am looking to pick up more truck work and would also like to register with some crewing agencies. Basically I was wondering what the best mode of contact is for these company’s should I, e-mail, snail mail or call. I have 6 years experience now as a sports and news photographer with a spattering of production work here and there. This makes my second question about crewing agency’s two fold since I have heard from some on this board that many want ten years or more experience. My hope is to become an owner operator which I would add is one of my reservations about crewing agencies right now since I don't own a full kit yet. Any help you could provide will be appreciated since I am still learning the art of business and marketing. Also at the risk of being shameless if anybody needs an assistant or second camera in New England I might just be available.
