I have tried to playback 16:9 video shot on a D35 with a PVV3. Have the pulse thing on...yet it plays back 4:3 when I play it on a UVW-1800 on a standard monitor.
What am I doing wrong?

Does the playback monitor A/B switch between 16:9 & 4:3 ratio, or does it A/B standard 4:3 & Underscan? Your monitor may be your problem. The company I'm employed by had to replace all of their monitors whenever we began shooting everything in 16:9.

I take it that the video in 4:3 is stretched, right? You then need to look at it on a 16:9 monitor; it won't letterbox on its own.

Yep, a 16:9 image will be played back 4:3 on a standard 4:3 monitor. It will look as if stretched vertically. The solution is a switchable monitor or a 16:9 monitor.
