Here we go again. Tampa is nice, the weather is fine all year long. Hell, during lunch you can watch dolphins swim in the Bay. The pay is pretty good, never going to get rich in this biz. The gear is probably like the gear your using right now. Apply for the job and find out all the details then. As for morale, its what you make of it. There are bitchy people at every station, just stay away from them and keep a positive outlook and things will be fine.

i know its late to bring this up but .....
here we go

most of the stations in tampa don't have a budget to fly people in for interviews, there always seem to be plenty of local candidates

if you have an interest in sunny market 12
come down for the NPPA 60th party and make a point to go
visit as many stations as you can.
the chiefs are all good guys and very approachable
the contact you make can lead to a job later

so come on down
its a nice laid back place to live and work.

I worked in Tampa for a year about 5 years ago. I hated the city and state, but I'm from Buffalo, so I'm not a good judge. Palm trees with Christmas lights makes me want to throw up. If you like concrete, sand, and humidity then you might like it.

At the time, WTSP was a great place. Good people and not a lack of fun stories to do. The ND I worked under has since left, so I can't speak to the current climate, but watching their work on-line, it seems they're photography is as much a priority now as it was then. Gene Yagle is one of the most imaginative photographers I have ever worked with and learned a lot just by being around him.

I imagine they have improved their fleet. I drove a full size Bronco with no paint on the hood and 170,000 miles on it. As for pay I made in the upper 30's and had 7 years of experience at the time.
