Can someone give me the lowdown on this market. I'm very interested in moving there, but I've heard that the pay is kind of low. Any info at all would be of great help.

Dude...San Diego is VERY expensive. Photogs probably start at $35K (everyone's in cost-cutting mode these days...hiring people on the low-end.)

Sounds reasonable enough for a 20's market...but you can't get a decent 1BR for $1200. Many may argue that you CAN get a 1BR for $700 or so. But the key word here is "decent." For $700 you'll be living in da hood...or waay the hell inland.

San Diego is my hometown...I worked there for 4-years. NOBODY leaves the market because it's such an awesome city. The "Big 3" all have photogs that have been there 15 or 20-years. They all bought houses back when you could get a home for $150K. Nowadays I think the median price of a home is over $500K (and that'll get you an older home.)

There is a FOX affiliate and an "indie." They pay less than "The Big 3."

Good luck.

It is VERY expensive to live here. Don't accept less tan 43000 a year at any of the big 3 though...if you do, you'll be lowering the bar for everyone and making it impossible for anyone to live and work here wihthout having 2 jobs.
KNSD and KGTV are probably the best stations to work at but knsd's product is better. KUSI will abuse you and pay you peanuts and KFMB I'm told has a weird vibe and people are in the process of trying to escape.
Expect needing a minimum of 2500 a month to live comfortably.
Great town though. Sunshine most days, you can wear shorts in January and lots of beaches.
If you want to know anything else more specific, PM me.
