Well I have worked with MG for some time. Really I can't complain. The benefits are good, but the pay is a little bit low from what I hear. I really wouldn't worry about the whole thing.

I too am relatively happy with the pay. "On Your Side" brand is a definite change... so if change is not you, you will not be happy. Our management is producer driven, which is good and bad. There is a strict corporate climate as well... so if you are a, "talk first, think later type", you most likely will not be happy or just won't last too long.
Edit - Yes... I am happy with benefits as well.

My $0.02:
The MG station in our market got P2 about a year ago, and a pretty good kit of accessories as well. Recent set, graphics, weather system and vehicle logos.
During February sweeps they led with a lot of long investigative pieces ("cold cases", for example) and seemed to sideline the news of the day.
Am I right, Mike?

Thanks for the info. Guess it will have to be one of those wait and see things.

Yeah Panasonic is in their pocket for sure. Not much Sony to be found at MG stations. I thought the pay was low, though they have great benefits like stock options and such. Their stock use to do pretty well. As a side note I remember they had some connection with the stock quotes on msn.com or something too. They own lots of newspapers and their goal is marry the newspapers with the tv stations as much as they can. When I was there, the health insurance was Blue Cross, but they had something else for dental and eye care. To sum it all up I think they care more about their newspapers and neglect TV side. They were always looking for ways to reduce cost by cutting jobs and adding equipment to take their place. P2 was chosen only to reduce maintenance and tape stock costs I IMHO. They now run numerous stations Master Controls from WSPA in Spartenburg. Small market MG stations often have one man band reporters/cameramen. They are more interested in cutting the fat than producing a superior product. Again IMHO its all about their stock ticker.

Maybe I should say "Screwed by Local Management"... Clue in?
As they are right now, MG is fine if any of these apply:
-You work for one of their papers, IMD, or Corporate
-You work for WFLA, WSPA, or WKRG

Im with Run, I am not a MG fan. I will avoid working for them, unless they were to offer a really good pay scale w/ better bennnies, overtime, not under staffed, pay for extra training, seminars, hookers, more vacation, better management, SAT truck would be really cool too, chopper with a vibrating massage chair, A vehicle that didn't wreek of mildew, and a camera that works at least every other week .

I work for MG and I can't really complain much. We have brand new p2 cams and grass valley news edit. The only draw back will be if you take on the "On Your Side" brand. I think if your station is in the 70's or a larger market than that you will be happy with MG. The only complaints i've really heard have been from the smaller markets. The benefits with MG are great. Be ready for some changes but I wouldn't worry about jumping ship you might be pleasantly supprized.
