I am currently setting up fpr a cooking show pilot and need some help.

If I want to shoot overhead shots of cooking how do I achieve this the best way possible. Do I hang a mirror and shoot into it or is it better to try and add another camera to the mix.

We will be using robotic HD cameras that we just received but the final product will not be shown in HD. The additional camera would not be HD.

Any ideas please let them fly.

I shot a cooking show a while back. We used a mirror. Worked great. I would suggest using one.

Mirror over the cooking surface could get steamed up or hazy with grease/smoke. I'd fly a camera on a boom over them. Try the mirror first, tho - it's a way cheaper alternative.

If you put the mirror 5 to 6 feet off of the cooking surface, it won't get that fogged...If the ceiling allows. You could fly a camera, but you will find that you only use one or two shots from it

How about a jib? Can you shoot 90 degrees down with one? (I've never used a jib OR done a cooking show with the overhead BTW):)

If you shoot into a mirror, are there problems with the axis? If so, how do you deal with them?

No problem with the axis. When I did it the mirror was hung at 45 degrees about 7 feet above the set so the wide camera could get both the wide shot and the mirror shot. Big mirror. It was able to cover the whole front counter.

Because you are shooting essentially straight down, you are "axis neutral". The mirror is like what you would find hanging over a fireplace, not a small closet mirror. Big glass=more coverage.
