Scaners and pageing services

Since I am still planning to move back to Hartford in two weeks I am now scaner shoping. What models do I want? I would assume handheld is best since I can take it with me if I am not in the car? I remember reading in response to one of my earlier posts that bristol is the only encripted town in the area. Also what about pageing services, I am not framiliar with them how do they work and would I be able to sign up with one to get alerts sent to a pager.

check out www.radioreference.com (http://www.radioreference.com) they only require a free registration and i never get email from them, maybe 1 in the last year. I plan on making a small donation to them sometime soon cause i use them often.
