Hello, my college station shoots on DVC pro, and I always seem to have a problem with tape labels on my library tapes. In the past I have drawn up my own labels with a grid in word, printed them out, and taped them onto the front, back, and inside of the large format DVC pro tape cases. However, as time goes on, the labels tend to get ripped, or the tape starts to come off.

I’m looking for another solution. I had thought about possibly finding some sort of sticker paper and printing them off on that, but I don’t know how well that would work to write on. I know some major stations have their own labels that get printed professionally and sent to them, but I’ve been searching all over the internet and in the archives on this site, and cannot find a place that would do it.

Where do you all get your tape labels? Are they printed in house? Or does another company do it for you? Is there another solution that I have over looked for labeling my tape content? (I’m looking to write down the Story Slug, time code, story style, and things like that)

Thanks for your help!

Currie systems in Alambama. 256-704-2844. Make blank and labeled. (tape, slug, tape #). On another note - They are about $30.00 per 1000. Anyone know anyplace cheaper?

Label maker

We use Dymo tape. I'm not talking the old imprint tape, we use the new stuff that burns the letter to the tape. It comes in different colors and you can change the print size.

For short term use, we just use pre-cut labels and print them out in house.

Both save money and allow you to control things.

We just purchase VHS labels (center, not spine), stick them on top and fold it over the side away from the record protect tab. We end up covering the tape window but it hasn't been a problem and there's plenty of room to write larger.
We designed a simple label page in Word, print it out and just photocopy it onto the labels. If you'd like a copy of it and the specific sheet size, email or PM me.

for simple labels that are removeable, we have art tape custom cut to 3/8" inch for spine use only. It costs us about $300 for 1000 rolls. each roll covers 100's of tape spines as only about 3" is required for the spine-just pull off as much as you need.

Then, we use sharpies to write the story name (i.e., "3rd st fire- 10-18-05")
