Does anyone have the xdcam or p2 at their shops?
If so, how are they working out? What are the good things and what are the bad things about the system?

Lenslinger and FTOJournalist (sp?) shoot XDCAM.
Bastards.
Search the site for threads or go to Lenslinger's blog.

have the p2 it is a great camera, medias expensive but they make storage for the format.
We edit on avid so we just send all the extra b-roll and pkgs vos, vosots, to the server. Xdcam is also a very nice camera very much like the betacam sx very nice picture but the extra are gonna cost you way more. Had a problem with errors on the discs. Might have just been a bad disc but very nice camera. Very easy to use
you can go wrong with either it just depends on what you budget is and if you want media on hand
or media on a server.
Any feelings on the new camera developed by Thompson Grass Valley? If you are not familiar, check out thompsongrassvalley.com.

One should not overlook the Ike DNS-33w Editcam3.
I got to play at the SBE show and dollar for dollar seems to fit the NLE bill. The price of the camera has come way down and and use can use either flash or hard drives. I would go hard now with the cap. of up to 80 gigs now as opposed to 4 gb on the flash.

Hunt tv,
Thanks!
CBS Richmond has P2 with Avid Newscutter and Airspeed servers. Once we got past an injestion problem due to a missing Panasonic software update, we are cool. I love being able to edit non-linear in the live trucks. It was just a ton of new info to deal with all at once.

or media on a server. Sorry to hear you had a problem with an XD disc. We have about 20 cameras in operation and each photog has about 15-20 discs apiece. I've not heard of anyone having any drop-outs, pixelization, problems whatsoever. With nighttime coming upon us so early now that daylight savings is over these cameras are soooooo nice. No more black hole liveshots.
We use Grass Valley editing and everyone has made the transition without any trouble. Pkg's are now being cut in a fraction of the time and vosots can be edited in just a few minutes, almost seconds. All live trucks and sat truck have non-linear editing, as well. Overall, everyone has been extremely happy with the XD cams. You'll be amazed at the lack of dropouts, breakups, lines in video. There have been none, I repeat none, since we went to XD.
I don't have experience with the P2 so I will not try to compare it to the XD but I will say I can not imagine it being any better than the XD. I still like to flexibility of taking a disc to someone rather than having to let them dub off the vid from my P2 card. I can let them have the disc and go on to another shoot. I can drop off reporter with disc and go to another shoot without even getting out of the car. It's my understanding that you'd have to dump the vid off the P2 card before going on to next shoot. Correct? That, in and of itself, is enough for me to choose the XD.
