I'll be shooting some college basketball tonight, and after wishing I had some knee pads all the other times I've shot it, I've decided it's finally time to pick some up. Any suggestions of which ones work best? Thanks!

I'd go with the volleyball knee pads because they don't have any straps like rollerblading knee pads. I wear mine under my jeans, and they work fine for me.
You can also use a towel that is folded over a couple times if you want something simpler.

Go to a camping store and get a chair like this. (http://www.rei.com/product/47800275.htm?vcat=REI_SSHP_CAMPING_TOC) You can sit in it, or kneel on it. You'll find all sorts of positions to shoot from. Often you can sort of brace your self with it to shoot more steadily. They're really light and easy to cary too. It will save your back a lot of grief.

I echo the camping chair for shooting basketball on the floor. We use them all the time shooting NBA games. They will save your back by giving you lots of support.

The best basketball chair : The backjack floor chair (http://www.floorseating.com/catalog/search_tool.asp?CID=124&kew=backjack+chair)

Sitting on the floor? We always had to be on our feet doing handheld under the basket or close-by. I've been smashed a few times, but only one did any damage.

Most NBA, and some NCAA venues require that photogs actually sit on the floor cross legged at a specific distance from the baseline. No kneeling on your knees is allowed because it blocks the view of the fans who pay huge megabucks for the courtside seats under the baskets. The NBA requires open "escape lanes" on either side of the basket so that players aren't always stepping on, or landing on photogs after layups.
I like the backjack chair because it provides more back support than the camp chair. Mine was a little too tall in the back so I cut 2" out of the interior metal frame so it wouldn't rub against the back of my camera while sitting.

Ask your mom where she got hers. I know she can be on her knees for hours. (who am I kidding, minutes)

Every time I see the title of this thread, I think it's about job interviews...

You might be able to recoup your costs by selling them to a little too wishful thinking reporter who is trying to get that job in a market a bit too big for their britches. To not get that job would be something they just couldnt swallow.
