kbtx is really smalltime. i wouldn't bother unless your going to take some classes at A&M. if you want a good starter job check out KCEN over in waco. they're always hiring. i don't know anything about ktxs.

They are all good starter stations. KBTX is no more smalltime than KCEN- both are good places to start. KTXS , Abilene? Probably better than the two mentioned previously they even have a sat truck.

Waco, Bryan , and College station are clumped together as one market but the 93 market size can easily fool you. KBTX really stays in the Bryan area. KCEN is stronger in Waco.

KTXS has a brand new news director, but he's photog-friendly.

KBTX is undergoing a lot of turmoil (GM fired, ND quit).

KCEN is the perennial dog station in Waco.

I worked at KBTX for a while "back when". It was a decent place to work. Never really at a loss for news. Not a lot of breaking news, but interesting stuff. With A&M being there, you have a little more expert's to fall back on for stories. The fire school is fun to shoot every year. Along with the Highway Test facility. Houston is only 1.5 hours away. I could go down for the night and still make it back to get decent rest for work the next day.
I would work there again. They just lost their ND and GM both. The owners are looking to save some money. The place is a good hop over to Austin.
As for Abilene, I worked close enough in San Angelo, and i would NEVER work in West Texas again. NEVER. You can't even buy beer in Abilene. If you thought Waco was hard core religious, Abilene is right up there as well.

Jusy my 2 cents... If the money is the same, go with KBTX.

Cheers, Mi3ke

the market info on b-roll.net is wrong.
waco-temple-killeen is one market.
bryan-college station is another market.
the waco market is larger with more activity.

the waco market is larger with more activity. No, you're incorrect.

Bryan/College Station is part of the Waco/Temple market.

IMO, it should be a separate market, though.
