So, my boss comes to me the other day and says we probably won't be getting new cameras like we wanted. Is there any equipment you would like to ask for? And, I couldn't think of anything!!! So, what would you ask for?? I already have 4 very nice, new lights (2 soft boxes, 1 Omni, 1 Pro), brand new wireless with cube and lav mic, mini soft for my frezzi, new cords, light stands etc. Can you guys think of anything that I am missing??? As the title asks, what would you want?

It depends on what you're doing. Your profile says you're employed by "a bunch of doctors." Most people on this site are going to assume you're shooting news. What kind of production do you do?

Another wireless is always nice. I really like having the body pack in addition to the cube.

A good shotgun like a Senneiser MKH-60.

More lights. Some Dedos or Ari fresnells.
What kind of tripod do you have? Is it time for an upgrade?

How about a raise! :)

Well, I work in a hospital, shooting medical news stories. We do daily vo/sot pitches to our affiliates, and a weekly medical news pkg. So, it's sort of like we are a bureau. So, we do shoot news, just not as frenzied as a newsroom, usually. And, we are rarely doing shoots off-campus. We may go to a patients house for b-roll, and sound, but most of what we do is inside of a hospital. So, things like GPS, two ways, etc aren't really necessary. I just got a new Sennheiser, which is nice, but I can't think of other stuff/toys to ask for. My tripod is fairly new, and isn't going to be replaced anytime soon. Our editing gear is new as well, I am using Final Cut Pro, which I like a lot. I will be getting a new deck for it soon, as well. We have new Fostex speakers for the editors, so no need there. Perhaps some nice monitors? Just not sure...thanks for the replies

I don't know what you use for a camera, but since you probably do alot of work in confined spaces, a nice wide angle adapter would be handy. Oh, and a nice set of headphones to monitor your camera audio.

I agree with the wide angle adapter idea. It would help you a lot in your situation and shouldn't be a budget killer.

It seems like you've got a lot of stuff to work with already. Have you thought about hitting them up to send you to the NPPA workshop in Norman for a week? Or maybe just paying for your membership.

You might also consider asking for some kind of nice cart to quietly and easily take equipment around the hospital with you. Something you could leave loaded up all the time. It would help you save a little time plus save some wear and tear on your body.

I hadn't thought about a wide angle adaptor, that's a good idea! As far as headphones, I just use my 'news' IFB cord. Whenever I have used headphones, it sounds weird to me. Maybe I was just using crappy headphones. I currently do use a cart for my gear, and it works pretty well. I am looking at different ones to see if I can one better suited to my gear. I currently have a 'high school AV geek' cart that does ok. Just haven't found anything better as of yet. Oh, and the company is paying for me and one of the reporters to attend the story-telling workshop in Lexington this year. So, that's definitely a plus!! Thanks for all the suggestions.

There was a thread not to long ago about carts but I can't find it right now. I have the smallest Rock n' Roller which is ok. It's very light and compact, but I don't think it's very durable. Magliners are sort of the standard, but big and clunky. Shaky listed one I think his brother has that also turns in to a ladder. There was one really durable folding cart I used years ago that I liked but for th life of me I can't remember what it was. Sorry.

I prefer the ones on four wheels rather than the ones on two wheels. You can leave them set up and they're not much harder to steer.

Your place actually sounds like I pretty good place to work. It sounds like the work load is light and you have good gear. Got any openings? :D
