Joe, why don't you do like every other chief or hiring manager on this site and buy an ad.
And you also need spell check; it's Ft. MYERS.

PhotogFromFL is right-
This site is supported by monies received from job listings, advertisers and other sources. So, do like the rest of us and ante up!
BTW, I'm a chief in Ft. Myers and I think you'll get plenty of applicants without having to pull from our market exclusively, so leave us out of it.

Wow, seems to be a little paranoia in the Ft. Myers chief's, is the pay that low there? I doubt a thread like this would initiate some mass exodus from one market to the other, but who knows. Do you have to be from Ft. Myers to apply?

No paranoia.
And I don't think any of us are worried about an exodus. But a medium market like ours makes it hard to attract quality people as most potential applicants either jump over the 60's markets to try to go top 40 or are too new to truly qualify for this "tweener" sized market.
All I'm saying is a top 15 market can usually get all the applicants it wants. Why recruit exclusively from FM?
My photogs will tell you I never take moving up personally (In fact, in the mid-90's, I went from FM to Tampa) but pull from other markets, too.
I'm sure the tapes will arrive by the bagful.

Yes I will be taking a listing on the site...I have just been a tied up with other duties.
a job listing will be in place soon.
No you don't just have to be just from FM...I worked there a long time ago...sorry to ruffle your feathers currentchief. I am not targeting your mkt exclusively, sorry it came out that way.
yes we are a Sinclair station... Tampa is now market 12 not that it makes a difference.
Thanks for the spell check photogformFL..

You guys over at WB are EXPANDING? You just dropped back to 30minutes a few months ago. Are you going to do a full LOCAL hour or are you still plugging into the central casting studio?
IMHO, you should look at hiring some of those fellow photogs from other markets where Sinclair closed its newsrooms. Maybe upper management(in Baltimore) should offer relocating folks to other markets when they shut down a facility.

After a company lays you off, and basically says "screw you, you're not making us any money"...would you really want to go back to work for them?

You're right, but it would be nice if they offered you a position at another one of their stations. At least give YOU the option of keeping a job(although you'll have to move) or not. Many companies, when downsizing operations, offer employment at other facilities. I know many of the folks up in Winston Salem or Philly or (insert closed Sinclair newsroom here) would jump at the chance to move to Tampa! It could be a great opportunity for some to move up in market size. ONLY IF SINCLAIR OFFERED IT!
As a Photog from a closed down Sinclair WB (one day left), no, there was no offer to fill any position in Tampa. And we were hiring up until the last minute before the announcement was made. So don't get too secure there Joe. I would advise anyone.....never work for Sinclair, whether it be WB, FOX, NBC, CBS, or ABC. They start up News Central without any intention of giving it a serious run although the whole News Central idea was lame. JoeSun, lookout! If there is a Media General station in your market, Sinclair will out-source your news slot to them and wave bye, bye to you and everyone in your news room.
I'm sorry if I sound bitter but seeing my friends and their families with children being uprooted and having to start over and others still looking, not knowing what to do (the market is flooded), I don't enjoy seeing another WB owned by Sinclair trying to lure in hard working people. It won't last!
You may be looking for a job in Ft. Myers which is a cool place with awesome photogs.

OOOK,
We are well aware of the other closings but for now we are trying to make our place work...
I worked in FT Myers long ago, infacy there alot of former FM people in Tampa. If need be I would remain in this market at another station. I am sorry that Sinclair closed 3 of its stations... But untill they decide to close us, I plan on doing the best possible job that I can.
We are hiring anchors, reporters and photogs.
yes we only have a half hour newscast that used to be an hour.
Ofcourse I welcome any and all tapes from the shooters of the Sinclair stations that closed...and from anybody that is interested.
As far as the station closing I dont have a crystal ball to predict the future...don't get mad at me...I didn't think that this post would get welcomed with all the negativity. And I wasn't the one behind the closings.
Yes, I realize that we could close shop or not ? I am doing the best with what I have to work with.
I have a family that I have to look out for aswell.
at least it would be a step into the market and moving onto another local station.
Hey Joe,
Nothing personal here. I understand where you're coming from. It's just that Sinclair does things without telling people and the message was in part a warning for you, too. If you hired 2 or 3 photogs and the first of the year rolled around and notice was given, it would somewhat reflect poorly upon you. With all this going on, Sinclair has put YOU in an awkward position because I'm sure every candidate for those openings will be wary. Although Tampa is a great market and would be a great move if you guys don't fold (I hope you don't).
All I'm saying is, the writing is on the wall.
Again Joe, I am not at all angry with you and I wish you and everyone at WB38 peace of mind and a kick ass show every night.
It's those damn suits that's got me all twisted!
