That pilot is a hero...
A better landing under the given circumstances is impossible...

I just saw this on our 10pm newscast. Great pilot. I'm sure those on board didn't mind watching a (insert your favorite news channel name here) live feed on Directv of them flying/landing. lol

My wife was screaming as we watched it land on CNN, but it couldn't have ended better. The pilot deserves a medal. I get a tightness in my chest just thinking about being on such a flight. Just imagine seeing your plane on live TV with the friggin' front wheels turned sideways. They confirmed they were allowed to watch until 30 minutes before landing.
WOW! What a show.
Who else did a great job...The guy in the chopper shooting it for KCBS. Thats was so great shooting! Nice and tight! Moved just right. Thats guy or gal....Knows how to shot from a chopper!
LA Photogs...Let that person know there work was noticed!

LA Photogs...Let that person know there work was noticed! Agreed, although their work, great as it was, didn't prevent a tragedy.
One more note... JetBlue is Awsome! If any of you have a chance...Fly with them. The Pilots can sure fly and you could watch it also on TV!
Do you think they left the Direct TV play? (If you don't know what I mean...They have it at every seat)

The KCAL and KCBS chopper guys were *awesome*. I think it was KCAL's guy that I was hearing, and in addition to great pix he had invariably spot on the money information.
Terrific job by them...to say nothing of the skill of the Jet Blue pilot. Anyone want to bet he was laid off somewhere else after a VERY long career?

I heard they had a feed up until 30 minutes till the landing.
And yeah, pity the boss who had to let this guy go...

Watch the Today show this morning. They have video from inside the cabin of the plane during the flight. Good stuff.

No kidding...how do those TODAY folks score all that exclusive stuff...the NBC affiliate out here had it all over their 11PM 'cast and were bragging about seeing more only on TODAY...I have a feeling if the passenger who shot that vid asked TODAY for 50 grand they would've said OK!

The scoring...
KCBS/KCAL: The winner! Tight shot follows the action closely, zooms in as the plane stops.
KABC: Second place. Upstaged by the chopper with the huge gold 9 on the side. (see above) Doh! Zooms out as plane stops.
KNBC: Third place. When the front wheels start throwing sparks, it is painfully obvious the camera is in AUTO-IRIS!!!
->disclaimer: I have never shot in a news helo, so I have no frickin' idea how hard it is.<-

Hey ken dog,
Starting next week I will fill in for our chopper photog in chopper 5. It's alot of fun and at the same time you have to use a diffrent skill than what is used as a photog on the ground.
A few months ago I coverd his shift and was going to post a story about our missions but never got around to it. So in three weeks when I finish the chopper shift I will post a story or two.

 I would! First thing I would do upon seeing my plane's front landing gear turned 90 degrees is fire up a cigarette.

You forgot the part about the stiff drink...there were plenty of those to go around up there also!

Didn't Jet Blue used to be Value Jet? Value Jet is the one that crashed in the FL Everglades sometime in the 90's.
I agree, that pilot (and crew) did an amazing job.
