KOAT Workers
Vote Out Union
The National Labor Relations Board today is expected to sign off on a union decertification vote held earlier this month at KOAT-TV, Channel 7.
The bargaining unit consisting of photographers, editors, engineers and other technical people voted 27-18 to discontinue its relationship with the union.
The workers have been represented for the last eight years by the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians/Communications Workers of America, Local 7011.
The union workers, said Sam Beam, the audio technician and announcer who filed for decertification, paid dues of 1.66 percent of their annual income. "That got old after a while," he said.
