Anyone know if you can bulk erase DVCPro tapes? I was trying to do it with an old eraser, but it wasn't working. I don't know if it was the eraser or the tape.

Mate!

If you don't release the "record inhibit" tab on the back of the tape you won't erase it.
Once you slide it back in to position about six passes on each side should see you ok. :)

The record inhibit tab has nothing to do with the ability of a bulk eraser to blank a DVC-Pro tape.

A bulk eraser can also be called a "manual degausser." Basically it's an electromagnet that randomizes existing magnetic signals or patterns. When you use a bulk eraser you are basically just shuffling the recorded signal into nonsense.

There are many types of tapes that have issues with a bulk eraser though. I know DVC-Pro can be a pain, as can metal SP tapes... Really any metal particle tapes have issues because of the physical way the signal is magnetically stored on the tape.

You need a better bulk eraser and you shouldn't have a problem. Just make sure you keep your watch away from the EMF from the machine... that is unless you want a new watch.
