I am wondering how it is possible to get a chance to work for a show like The Amazing Race? I already work for a Viacom Station and would like to take a few weeks and shoot one of the racing couples. Where would I apply? Anyone have an idea?? Thanks!!!!

I did some PA work for "No Oppurtunity Wasted" this summer and it sounded like they had the same guys shooting and they were just flying from town to town.
I don't know how "The Amazing Race" is though.

The "Amazing Race" is Produced by Burt Van Munster for Bruckheimer Productions. He was one of the original producers of COPS.
Burt has a close knit group of favorites on his crew. It would be very tough to get your foot in the door. A number of the crew are Aussies & Brazilians. Most of the crew has worked on the show since the 1st season. Its one of the most grueling shows to work on. Something like 72 hrs on then 12 off then 72 on... Why do people always think that all the shows you see on the networks are produced by the network itself. Just because someone works for a CBS/Viacom station doesn't put them in the pipeline for this type of work. Its mostly a "who you know thing".

And it's a flat, cut-rate rate, too. I know a couple of guys that shoot and do audio on a reality show(no where near as big as Survivor or Amazing Race) and most guys I know wouldn't even get out of bed for the "deal" that they have.

I ran second camera for an LA shooter this week and we talked about the reality shows.
Shutterfinger is right, there is a tight group of guys that do that kind of work, and like anything in this businees above market 50, it is hard to get in the circle. Most are flat rate deals because they offer up so many days of work.
At The Plate is right, those shows are done by independent production companies and not the network directly, and your best bet is to contact the production companies and see who handles their crewing.
Run&Gun you are one to talk about getting out of bed!! :D

If you're not part of the cure, you're part of the disease.
Please let reality TV die. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy.
Please.
