Hi all, I posted this a while ago, but didn't get much response. I'm looking to relocate to either the Dallas/Fort Worth or Houston areas. Does anyone have any contacts or information about those markets? I hear they are pretty good, especially DFW. However, it seems like there is not much movement in either of those markets. In addition, does anyone have any information on freelance possibilities?

Thanks in advance for all your help, and may all your shots be in focus!

Sorry, forgot to mention... I'm a photog who' been out of the newsroom for a couple of years, except for occasional freelance sports shoots. Been doing mostly industrial work. Thanks again!

Tough markets (but not impossible) to get into. I can't speak much for the DFW market, just keep checking the websites.

However, in Houston KTRK (abc13.com) has a truck op position but they aren't in any hurry to fill it, WB (khwbtv.trb.com) has a shooter position and I've heard that KPRC (click2houston.com) is about to have a photog/truck op opening or at least some regular freelance work (with their gear). Fox (KRIV, its an O&O, but no local website, check the national website) might have and editor's gig come up soon.

Since you've been out of the biz for a while you might want to consider freelance work to get your feet wet. Some of the stringers here make a killing working overnight and weekends. If you're interested I can give you names of a couple people who have extra gear...just email or message me.

Happy hunting and good luck!!!

You can find lots of info from other similar inquiries on this board with a little searching. I've put my 2 cents in more than once. Dallas pays a little more on average. They get a winter, we have a beach, and both are in the great state of Texas.

If you have specific questions about KRIV, KHWB or KHOU, give me a PM. I've done them all.

SneakyB and Frank,

Thanks for your help guys. Frank, any contact info you can provide would be helpful. I worked at a WB affiliate out here, a few years ago... didn't sit well with me. However, any contacts or ideas either of you can recommend would be very helpful.

As I posted before, I've been doing mostly corporate/industrial the past couple years, but have been doing freelance sports for a couple of stations. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention, and thanks for reminding me Sneaky, I have my own gear as well.

By the way, you guys rock. And even though I'm out here in crazy Cali, I wholeheartedly thank you for helping me find a way to get back to my home state.
