Gary Harsh died recently in a car crash. They believe he fell asleep at the wheel.

Gary made his living documenting auto accidents. He sold photo packages to insurance companies and lawyers. he also gave free pphotos to the cops and fire departments for investigation and training.

Back in the early 70's he came to me as a young kid and asked me how to get a press card. I signed for his first press card and press photog license plates.

His funeral was something to see. The prosession was over a mile long! Highway patrol cars, cop cars from several cities and counties, firetrucks and ambulances and even a helicopter! It was quite a tribute to a nice guy.

Sadly, the media didn't cover it in Sacramento that I know of so I can't post photos or a story.

Ironic: Gary ran off the road and hit a tree where he died. It was just 200 feet from where he photographed a fatal accident just the night before...

I am going to guess late 40's. When he started shooting, he was only 15 and his mother drove him to the scene of accidents. When he got his first car, I signed with DMV so he could get press photog plates. HE was about 6'6" and 400 pounds. According to a coronor friend of mine, he had severe heart desease...
