Hey guys I have worked on crews for a few television shoots and want to try to get on a crew for a film shoot... Will I be totally lost or will a lot of the general knowledge from tv/video shoots also apply to the film shoots?

General production knowledge is useful but what position are you working and what experience do you have?

I think Mandy.com is one of the sites that lists jobs in film. You might also check with your city or state film commision to see what production companies are are, or are going to be shooting films in your area. Also look in to atending any porfessional film organizations in your area to make some contacts.

Mandy is definitely a good site
Grip work is a good place to start out. it wouldhelp if you know some knots, and are familiar with reflectors and basic rigging.
You can definitely do it- I have.
Especially for a lot of the pople on Mandy- many are small student type productions that just need an extra pair of hands, but want someone a little more advnanced than a PA.

You won't have a problem with being a grip, "put that C stand there and bag it" shouldn't be any problem at all...
If you can, learn how to load film magazines. Then learn how to load the camera. Watch, ask questions as long as you don't bother anyone and LEARN!

Or..."Kill the baby and get me a cookie".
Try your local Women in Film & Video (yes, they let men in too). Also www.mca.org (http://www.mca.org) If you're in the Mid Atlantic area, try the Maryland Film Office - www.marylandfilm.org (http://www.marylandfilm.org) If you're not in MD, the site may have links to other sites.
