Our station just bought a Panasonic AG-DVC80. I will be using it for some shoots that I am traveling long distances for. We get it the day before I leave, I was just wondering if there is anything I should know about this camera?

don't break it, Sean :)
Seriously, remember it won't handle the same as a normal field cam otherwise you shouldn't have any problems. Take it out and experiment to learn some of its querks. What did the station buy it for? Don't tell me you are switching to toy cameras?!

I don't break things, Josh! They are sending me to Boston for the Frozen Four, go Bulldogs! And then I am going to France with Kim April 21st.
By the time we would have spent the money renting, it would cost as much as the camera.

WE use ours for Investigative!!! It's great to go undercover and look like a tourist in Southwest Florida. If you see me in a t-shirt and ball cap with one of those look out I am not shooting my vacation video!!! Although it may look like it. I still like my full size rig!

I don't know much about that camera, but it's still good for a station to have something like that when you don't want to advertise that you are a TV News station. Our eye cup on our mini DV got busted off in a riot on Halloween, but other than that it keeps on tickin. I wish we had a nat mic on ours like that one on the panasonic you are getting Sean. And why France? I mean I understand going to the Frozen Four(if I was still there Sean, you know it would be me going! :)

I bought the DVX-100, the big brother of the 80 and I love it. We shoot DVC PRO at the station and I when I shoot with my mini dv no one can tell which is the mini and which is the DVC PRO. Toy or not they are light and easy to shoot with. The picture is beautiful. There is nothing different you need to do with this camera. Turn it on and start shooting.

Anton Saur, that's hilarious!!!!

Like it or not the weenie cam's are being used in practically every sector of the industry. As with any other camera, in talented hands they can produce fantastic video. I often wish I'd bought a VX-1000 and joined the digital revolution when they first came out. I just hate those @#*&! automatic lenses! It would probably have saved me a lot of back problems though.
