Tonight I saw something on Animal Planets "Venom ER" where a KNBC 4 in Loma Linda, California, photographer had an interesting device on under his Schactler (sp) tripod plate. It looked like a shoulder harness of some kind. When you pick up your camera while on the sticks the bottom of the plate and the camera are not directly on your shoulder but on this harness. Looked really comfortable making it really easy to carry the cam and tripod all at once. Can someone tell me where I can get one of these or how to make one to attach to the bottom of the tripod plate so it is easier to carry around. Hopefully the photographer who was featured in that story in Cali. will see this. and help me out. I am not too sure how long a go it was but the program was on tonight, If anyone has any other bright ideas show me a pict or a website. Thanks.

I dont want to be the first post but, I have never liked the idea of carrying the camera with it on the sticks as stated above. I have seen them fall off, get hit in doorways and all over the place as well. How high did it sit? I always carry it or use the cam strap but never on the sticks. That is just my thought.

I carry my camera attached to the tripod. I've done it ever since my film days, when I saw experienced camera assistants moving 35mm Arriflexes around that way for quick resets.

There's a way to do it safely, though. Keep your hands (or one of them, at least) on the camera. That way, if the quick release plate fails, the sticks fall instead of the camera. If that happens, the tripod will probably only drop a few inches, and you can catch it against your chest.

Unlike the Sony plates, I'm using an Ikegami plate that has the lock that swings into the front. There's no way this thing can fail unless you just forget to lock the front of it, in which case the lever will stick out and cut your hand open before you ever pick it up.

For short moves (and sometimes longer ones) I've carried my camera on the tripod for years. Right hand underneath the head, left hand on the camera carrying handle. No problem.

Unless you have weak little girly arms... :P
