So you have sent out your resume and tape, now all you can do is wait. What are some typical response times people have gotten from employers looking to hire.

just curious

I've been called as soon as, before my tape arrived(because they heard I was sending a tape), up to, never heard from them.

The typical response time is going to be, never.

The day the tape got there, three months. Actually, 6 months. A place I sent a tape to back in October just called me. There is no timeline

I got the job two or three months after sending the reel. Some times they'll save the tapes from the runner ups if they think they'll have another opening soon.

I've been on both sides of the tapes, and generally if you haven't heard anything after 3 or 4 weeks, it's not going to hurt to make sure they got the tape. If they did and they didn't like it, you can try to find out what they are looking for and try to improve on that for next time (either with them or someone else). If they didn't get the tape, you might have a chance to get another one in before decision time.

There are so many things that can influence the impact of your tape. A very big pile of tapes can hurt you, and so can a very small one. Nobody wants to feel like they are settling for somebody by default, and even a quality tape needs others to go up against.

Keep that resume' to one page, don't list every award you've ever gotten (nobody really cares) and keep the tape to 3-4 STRONG stories. They may want to see more, but not when they are doing eliminations.

Some people have had success sending a series of tapes, showing their current work as they do it. That really depends on the individual. Some may feel like they're being hounded. Others appreciate the chance to get a realistic sample and not just greatest hits. You make the call.
