I have done a bit of research, and looked at the other threads on here... Cant afford the sony model, have seen some other ones that seem ok. Some claim to be used by espn and whatnot, yet their specs seem to be lower than you would think. I am looking for a good camera, underwater would be a good extra toy, and low light would be good to have. What can you all reccomend that you have used yourselves, and what specs should I pay attention to the most?

Check out sportzshot.com. I got to demo one of these for a ski story and was impressed with the quality.

As long as you get a color one...You should be OK. I have never used one for sports. But I have on many I-Team stories. Now, I am not a techie guy. I don't really know the specks. I got one at IRE convention. It was $400 for the camera. I think they have even got cheaper. Just have a good deck with you. Make it simple. The more expensive ones are a bit more detailed. Just 2 cables and a battery...Then your good!

If you want. E-mail me I could send you a couple of my stories. You can see how a good cheap camera works.

I played with a few mini cams a while back. Mostly 'consumer ones' - many of them put out an excellent picture in most conditions.

I am a fan of this website: www.allthings.com.au (http://www.allthings.com.au) -- An australian company that sell all sorts of nifty video stuff, including heaps of minicams.

I used one very much like this:

And I like the look of this bizarre offering:
http://www.allthings.com.au/Catalogue/CCS/auto%20focus%20zoom%20dsp%20video%20camera.html

Those two are PAL, but I am sure similar NTSC products can't be too hard to find.

I recently cut a programme that used one of these sorts of cameras and an in-cockpit camera for a stunt plane. It looked great.
