I work a second job at FedEx in the morning, so I have a badge to get onto the airport. This morning there was almost an emergency landing. Do you guys think that if one day when I was at work and something happend that I could go out onto the airport with my camera because I have a badge or would they stop me?

Two posts by two people I know from my former station. So, what nearly happened this morning at the Duluth International Airport? I do love how they call it International, cause they have soooooo many flights from out of the country coming in there. I think more personal planes take off and land there than commercial flights do.

An airport of entry has Customs inspectors either stationed or available on I believe 4 hours notice, for cargo, part 135 (charter) or part 91 (all other general aviation) operations. Lubbock International and Amarillo International airports have very few international flights in or out, but get quite a bit of GA international traffic.

To answer the origional posters question about using his FedEx badge/airport ID to gain entry onto an airport to shoot news, I would imagine that the terms and conditions of the badge limit its use to conducting the business activites of the employer or airport tennant that ID to issued for. Also I imagine FedEx would not want you doing another employers work, while you are on the ramp or past the boundaries of public access, then they are liable for any injuries.

If you were to use your Fed Ex ID to get news video at the airport- first make sure its the Biggest Story in the World- because you would most likely lose your Fed Ex job due to the mis-use of your badge. You might lose your TV job too. Management takes a dim view of crews who mis-represent themselves. I don't think an emergency landing would be worth it.
All that said- if you just happen to have a camera nearby while you're already at work at Fed Ex- MAYBE you could get away with keeping your job after videotaping. But I'm no lawyer.
Good luck-
Simon

Thanks for the replies. I'm not too worried about my job at FedEx and I would only shoot a crash. But anywawy, Raiderfan, it was actually one of Geno Pulutchi's planes. I don't know if he was in it or not though. They forgot the tow strap on the plane that they use to pull it out of the hanger.
