Does anyone know a good, cheap, and very easy editing program for PC? It's for a family member who wants to edit there home movies.

Check this link to a discussion over on Digital Issues on b-roll...

Cheap NLE (http://b-roll.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=000099)

There are links to some free downloads from the simple BGNLE (Bill Gates NonLinier Editor) to Avid Free DV etc...

Enjoy!

Ulead has a cheap NLE for home videos called Video Studio. Don't confuse it with the professional Media Studio.

Video Studio has just one timeline. You place your clips on the line then click and drag a transition between them. It has a very simple titler. I think it costs about $100. BUT, you can buy a firewire card for around $40 and alot of the cards come with Video Studio included. Go figure...

I just recently picked this up... came with a little USB thingie that you can connect your camera or VCR up to. Works pretty good! The editor is fairly simple, as Terry said, but it is perfect for someone with little or no NLE experience. I paid $80 at WallyFart for it (even though I hate that place...oh well) You can probably find these at any major chain that sells consumer cams. Now I just need to shoot something worthy of uploading to a website! Maybe I'll dig into my archives and put up my famous Beanbag Headshot clip. :D

Pinnacle Systems has a pretty good one too...used it on couple of home projects. It also works well with a DVD burner. VERY EASY to use for a novice.

Also downloaded the Avid FreeDV program. Nice as well, but doing titles suck and it really is NOT for amateurs.

Good luck! :)
