My mixer to camera breakaway cable broke last night and my soldering iron runs at too high a temp to use on this. Does anyone know of a place in the Baltimore area (or DC if really necessary) who is good at soldering fine wires like this?

For now, looks like it's back to the oldtime way...2 XLR cables taped together...ugh!

It might be worth trying.

That's where I got the cable from, I was just hoping to find someplace closer. Not looking good right now.

That Cold Heat iron looks interesting, but I need this done faster than I can wait to have it send. Besides, I don't think the probe in it is small enough. This wire in in the center of 8 smaller wires. If you have Neutrik ends on yours, the wire in question is in the female end, part of their "MC8" connector. 8 tiny wires in a circle w/ the broken one in the center (just my luck).

Thanks again.

Thanks.

Okay, for those of you in the Baltimore area, here's what I found out.

I had to call around a bunch of places who couldn't help me, I finally decided to call a place called Village Sound in Owings Mills. I say finally decided to call because everytime I passed their sign, I assumed they did car stereo installations. DOn't know why, but that's the impression I got.

When they said they could fix the cable, I rushed right over. Well, when I got there, they don't do stereo intallations, and yes they do repairs, but they also have professional audio components, more on that in a minute.

Back to the cable, they looked at it and said they could fix it. I had to leave it for a few hours, but when I came back they had that cable working like new again. Here's the best part, they only charged me $15! So, I highly recommend them.

Okay, the professional audio stuff. I couldn't believe they actually had professional audio there, and they're so close to my house. Sennheiser, EV & AKG mics, audio & video mult-boxes, BNC cables, custom cable builds, a bunch of connectors from Comprehensive, Nutrik and others, road cases, PA sys & studio speakers, amps, mixers (no field mixers though :( ), compressor/limiters, adapters, etc.

So if you need cables repaired or audio gear, stop by Village Sound on 11418 Reisterstown Rd in Owings Mills or www.villagesoundco.com (http://www.villagesoundco.com)

My ENG cable is one of the items I carry a spare for.
Since these guys are so good/cheap, maybe you can recruit them to make you a back up.
