The last event time he was "elected" the parade to the event was cut short by what started out being many eggs being thrown at the presidential limo. The event quickly worsened until the president though his own security was at risk. The event was quickly cut short as the crowd was beginning to get out of control.
With all of the criticism over the war this years event looks to be even more controversial. If one happens to cover the events; look for there to be many more protests- and events similar to the events which occured during his first inauguration.
Note that there will be an "additional" 15k law enforcement and military on hand in the DC area alone. Those numbrs will go along with the usual compliment of people who are always on hand to protect the president, and also the regular dc law enforcement.
It should all make for some interesting news footage.

I'll be there, but not shooting. I'm in a "standby/support" capacity, so I'm actually not sure what the hell I'm going to be doing. But I'm going in expecting it to be unpleasant.
Then, if it turns out to be cool, what a pleasant surprise!
I wouldn't get my hopes up on the protests, however. They have all the registered ones corralled in boxes. ANSWER has been crying about it for weeks. I have a feeling they're gonna have this thing locked down tight enough that any other protesters who try to slip in will have a hard time getting through to throw anything. And there will be enough cops there that if you do throw anything, you'll be tackled before it actually hits anything.
My main concern this week is that I was supposed to have Japanese class on Wednesday night, and the facking inauguration is forcing the closing of EVERYTHING at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. I consider my language skills more important than Georgie's big party.

Heh. I'm on the riser across from the White House. I found out today that they put a shelf where the Talent is supposed to stand, so I'll literally have to sit their ass on that shelf. Anyone have a nice paisley cushion? Also, setup for that location is 10pm-Midnight on Wed. and we have to leave the gear (including Camera!) there. It's also supposed to snow. Yet anoter hellish inauguration shaping up for the Tippster.
At least it's supposed to snow, not rain like last time, and I'll be under a roof. The last inauguration was the single worst day of work in my life: 33deg. and raining. Ice forming on everything in front of the Capitol, including me. I started shivering at 9:00am and had to stay on that damn riser until 5:00pm. No shelter, no warmth, no hot drinks, nothing.

Yes...I am...We're working two tents overlooking the Capitol till 3, then over to our roof
which overlooks the White House for one two cam
switch show and three other single positions.
Since I'm overseeing it, I'm going between the two locations to make sure everything goes as planned as well as probably jumping on a camera or two.
Couldn't have been last thursday when it nearly hit
70. We're doing set-up today and windchill is around the big ZERO. So think about Tip and me when you're
inside on Thursday, cause WE WON'T BE!

Add me to that "pity me, I'm outside" list. I'll be out on the Capitol platform on Thursday from as early as they'll let us in, til the end of the day. Ironically, it's supposed to be warmer in my old haunt of Anchorage than it's supposed to be here on Thursday. Time to get out all the old KTUU gear for maximum warmth!

I'll be nursing the satellite truck Wednesday & Thursday at two separate balls; scheduled for 14-16 hour days each. I'm not complaining.

I was supposed to be out today and into tonight - but a stomach problem has me laid up. Tomorrow I'll be on the Ellipse from 7a till 5p - brrrrrrrrr....

What do you guys do at events like this, when someone's stomping around on the riser? Once, this scrawny dude kept skipping around, and I think he was in serious jeopardy of being tossed to his doom amidst an unaware crowd.

I know I'm biting the hand that feeds me on this, but isn't this a huge waste of money? It's not like
he hasn't done this before. Just go out in the Rose
garden, raise your hand, and get on with. Save the money for something REALLY important. Forgive my rant, just got off our roof position and my face and hands
are pretty much frozen. I don't know how you guys
up north cope with this cold weather year in and year out. God, I hate it!
