Las Vegas weatherman fired after on-air racial slur against Martin Luther King
LAS VEGAS (AP) - A television weatherman was fired after referring to slain civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. as "Martin Luther Coon King" on the air, station officials said.
Rob Blair, of KTNV-TV, was delivering the extended forecast Saturday morning when he said: "Martin Luther Coon King Jr. Day, gonna see some temperatures in the mid-60s."
Jim Prather, vice president and general manager of the ABC affiliate, said Blair stumbled when he uttered the remark, but the excuse was not enough to save his job.
"This kind of incident is not acceptable under any circumstances, and I'm truly sorry that this event occurred," Prather said.
Blair, who worked at the station for about three months, apologized during the station's 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts saturday.
"I in no way intended to offend anyone," he said in theapology. "I'm very sorry."

i thought this was a hoax when i first read it, but after further investigation i am once again awed by the depths of human stupidity.

the station was quick to pull down his website profile so here's the google cache (sorry, no pic)...

my favorite quote...
"I get to give important information in a weather forecast and hopefully sprinkle a little bit of humor to put a smile on the viewers' faces as they head out the door."

i know i would have loved to see the news director's face as he headed out the door.

Ha ha ha ha!!! Sorry, I know it's a sensitive subject, but that's almost as funny as when Ron Burgundy said "Go f--k yourself San Diego!"

I wonder if he made it home alive... he's lucky he doesn't live in L.A or Detroit.

I heard that a female anchor in Detroit said to a mail weatherman, while talking about snow, "How about that 6 inches you promised me last night." or something like that ... anyone ever hear about that or is it urban legend?

I actually saw one myself where a female anchor said, "Now I'll throw it down to the skydome where the Jays are getting their cocks cleaned."

I had an reporter say "****" on air once. Then later some kids said, "Hey your the lady that said **** on tv!"

HAHAHAHA! Oh, I'd love to see a site that had clips of bloopers like the ones you mentioned Old Guy. Maybe HBO can do a special on four letter word bloopers, that would be funny as hell.

I remember an anchor about to pitch a live shot at a golf course say, "Let's now go to (sports anchor's name) who's been pitching a tent all day at the course..."

Had an anchor onetime say boyf**k. He quickly
corrected it to boycott, but we always wondered what he really had on his mind to blurt that one out.

We had a sports guy say "solor homo" instead of solo homer.

Coming out of a reporter package explaining a confusing federal overtime mandate, our anchor says, "That really was a gay, umm...good explaination."

I just thought of another recent sports quote involving a Redskins blunder, "...and they picked up another four skins sacks, it was downright disgusting!" Say it really fast and with feeling like a sports anchor would.

I feel a wee bit sorry for Rob Blair. He's a genuinely nice guy based upon when I worked with him for a bit in Northern California. No excuse for the bonehead move though.
