For those wanting to work in the Denver Metro area. New job posting on B-Roll jobs. Adams county school district 12 needs a Production photographer. Not a bad gig with a salary at top end of 56K. D

Why in God's name would you want to be a school district photographer?
I HATE shooting school bored (misspelling intentional) meetings. The only good thing about a news photog shooting one is that he/she doesn't have to be at every one of them.
As the school district photographer, I'm fairly certain that you'd have to shoot EACH AND EVERY ONE!!!
Dear God, can you imagine that? I'd kill someone within a month!!!

Actually I've only been to one school board meeting in 3 years. Except for the stupid office politics, it's actually pretty cool. Lots of time in classes with kids. I get to tell lots and lots of stories about the good things that kids do. It's like being a features photographer.
Wish I was making anywhere NEAR 56K. I have to do it all .... write, edit, produce, design sets, gfx, and on camera talent.

It's all perspective and I've shot enough weddings and such to know better than look down on the abilities of those who can succeed in that area of our business.
Not to mention not having to do a bunch of silly live shots well after anything is still going on. ;)
I've had film DPs make comments about the "lack of ability" those of us who shoot news must all have.
He, like others, doesn't understand the wide spectrum of job possiblities our skills can be adapted to...and paid for.

As I read the description, it looks like they want a one mand band type of position. Someone who can enterprise, write, shoot and edit daily educational stories for the school districts 24-hour cable station, as well as any school related items, such as school board. I'm all for it, unless its an on-camera position, then I'm out.

Someone wrote about a Film DP making a general negative comment regarding News Photogs' abilities to shoot. To that I would simply challenge this DP to shoot a days worth of news, and then ask them both how he/she did, and if they enjoyed NOT HAVING TOTAL CONTROL over their image. I only wish that I could stage, light up the entire setting, direct actors/clients/subjects, or otherwise entirely mold the story to fit my needs.
Comparing shooting a production to shooting news is a stupid endevour, apparently an endevour taken up by someone who doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.
I hope that you cleaned off your shoes, ...off the inside of that DP's ass! Most of us work our asses off, and don't have even a 10th of the luxories that some others behind the lens do.
