Has anyone ever used the Slinger? What do you think of it?

I usually keep my wallet in my back pocket.

I was just saying today that I needed a purse!

I have one...it's a pretty handy bag. I don't always "sling" it over my shoulder like the picture because it doesn't always stay putt. Meaning when and if you bend down a lot (say for a ground shot) it likes to sway and makes it awkward to get back up. However, i'm a smaller guy so this is the reason. Depending on your size that might not be an issue. As far as pockets, it's got plenty for my taste. It is comfortable and you can sling it around your tripod when you stationary for awhile, its a good investment.

I use mine all the time. I love it.
I keep 3 DVC pro tapes in the cell phone pocket.
Front Right Pocket-Leather Work Gloves and C-47's in big pocket. Leatherman, Scissors, Flashlight in flap pockets. Cell phone in pocket behind.
Front Middle Pocket-Anton Bauer Battery in big pocket. Pens, jewelers screwdriver, bamboo stick, Sharpie.
Front Left Pocket-Pack of 9V Batteries. Lens Chamie in pocket behind.
Main Compartment (zippered)-Various items. Advil, Gaffers Glass, small losable items in zippered interior pocket.
Large Open Pocket-Leave it empty so it's ready for something when I need it.
I also put PortaBrace pigtails on the plastic loops.
I also attach to the plastic loops some bungee loops with a large plastic ball on one end to have ready when needed and also to hang wireless mics and lavs off of so they're ready when I need them.
I also bought a couple of quick release keychains to attach to the plastice loops. One for keys. The other for pepper spray.

there is a strap that will go around your waste so that it doesn't slid around all over the place.

It's not for everyone, but I loved using the slinger - much better than the portabrace fanny-packs. Room for a brick, tapes, mics, patch cables, etc. Also, i found it much easier to get to things than the fanny-packs.

That's the gayest frigging thing I've ever seen in my life. I can't see how any self-respecting, Twinkie-gobbling photog would be caught dead wearing one of those things.

I prefer to call it my 'man-bag'.
One feature nobody's mentioned yet - the padding on the strap. It's great for when you're shooting off the shoulder.

I have one, but it's black.
I, too, put 3 dvcpro tapes in the cell phone pocket.
I put my lav in the big pocket (the one with the clear plastic window) and a back-up 10' XLR cable in the pocket behind that.
mic stands and pens fit in another pocket and batteries are placed in the small zippered pocket in one of the main compartments. I would ask for a better place to put the mic/transmitter than the huge main pocket, but I like it better than the hip pack- also, it's easier for reporters to carry.
the padded shoulder strap is nice, too.

I've had one for about 2 years now. Love it. Mine is black as well and I use it in all of the aforementioned ways. No one gives me crap about it, in fact three people in my market recently bought their own because they liked mine.

Kinda losing it's stitching too. I resemble that remark, in more ways than I care to admit. Having said that, this loosely-stitched gamey old bag can still out-televise you with one eyeball tied behind his back. Now, can we please stop slathering that old picture of me across this thread? The B-Rollers out there deserve SO MUCH better...

Prada, Louis Vuitton, and Portabrace. They all make nice purses. Yes I'm secure enough with my masculinity to call it what it is... my "Man Purse".
I bought a Slinger (black) about a month ago and like it. It makes me pack more efficiently. I used to carry a 25 pound fannypack. I'm having one of the gals at work sew on some velcro to the inner pocket and a couple other small mods, but over-all its very handy. I can comfortably carry enough gear for court or a package with a newby reporter. I guess it all depends on how and what you shoot.

I kind of like the picture...makes you look professional, serious, weathered, and slightly grumpy.
