i just can't seem to get my camera set up for optimum audio recording. it seems that i always have to use the mic att. which takes it down about 20db, to achieve decent sound. is that normal? if it's not set that way the sound is almost always overmodulated. anybody else experience this? any advice on pd 150 audio would be appreciated.
thanks

Not a PD-150 expert, but in my limited experience with it I've found it to be very unforgiving with audio. There's a very small window for optimal audio recording and if your outside of this on either side with your levels your going to get bad sound. I've found when I record just a touch hot the audio sounds overmodulated, and when it's little low it gets really hissy sounding in post. Apparently this has been remedied with the PD-170, that's what the Sony reps say at least
Sorry this isn't much help, just kind of
reconfirming what's been a much discussed complaint about the PD-150, audio recording snafus.

If you are using a mic like the ME66 with a PD150, that will happen. The auto gain simply doesn't handle it very well.
See this article:

And this one:

Here are instructions on building your own pad:

So far, I haven't had much opportunity to test it since my last run in with this, but in a week or so I will be doing a shoot with a PD150, and will test the 10dB pad I built as well as plugging it in to my field mixer.
If I learn anything new, I'll let you know.

I used PD 150 and audio/video are great. I used three different cameras without any problems. Can be your camera or settings. I hope my 2 cents helped.

Wow, once again, "renegade", you're so insightful. Your camera works just fine and that's going to help someone whose camera isn't working? I'm sure they haven't even thought about checking their settings.
And while I'm on this topic. In the Beta SX discussion, I love how "renegade" pipes in with an enthusiastic, "SX ROCKS". That's so cool!
Then you help out in the "Why does NY suck?" thread with the oh so helpful, "I do not have that problem dude, I am Italian, a walking tripod.......lol." Once again, your insight, professionalism, and intellect is astounding.
Does it stop there? No, this cretin continues to post anywhere he has anything resembling a thought. It's like reading a stream-of-conscious novel written by an imbecile.
Do you know what "renegade" means? Apostate, defector, rat, recreant, runagate, tergiversator, turnabout and/or turncoat. Strangely fitting and I don't even know you.
You left for a while, but now you've returned like an internet guerrilla to annoy us all. Please leave or become a constructive part of this society. You may think what you do is funny or rebelious, but you are actually tainting the already delicate social consciousness that we are all a part of. The world is better off without you adding to the planets idiocy.
I know I've gone on to waste more of my time and anyone else's who decides to read this rant, but I've been annoyed by this simpleton for too long and I'm in a mood and had to let it out.

Oh <please leave> I am glad you can put your anger and frustrations out. Sometimes professional help is recomended, but knowing you and the place you work, I understand why you can not afford medical assistance. It is ok, you can keep reading my posts. You can like it or not, you can agree or not, this is a free place to express our ideas and if it makes you happy to vent out all your sadness and bitterness, feel free to do it. It may be hard to be in your skin right now judging by your post, but I strongly suggest you try to deal with it. I did not read anything smart or funny from you except that angered reply. Print it, take it to a professional, you will be surprisse to learn you have a problem. Maybe you discover you are gay, maybe you want to borrow my tripod. Maybe YOU should "please leave".
